Justin Guarini quietly split from his wife Reina two years ago after 14 years of marriage

The American Idol runner-up is now in a relationship with entrepreneur Kim Walsh Phillips

Guarini shares two sons with Reina

American Idol alum Justin Guarini quietly split from his wife two years ago — and is now in a new relationship.

Guarini, 47, filed for divorce from his wife Reina in June 2024 after 14 years of marriage, according to court records viewed by PEOPLE. TMZ was first to report the news.

He and Reina — who reached a settlement in their divorce in December 2025 — share sons Wlliam, 14, and Asher, 13. Guarini was also stepdad to her daughter Lola.

Guarini did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The couple were married in September 2009 in Pennsylvania, several years after they reconnected from childhood.

“We’ve known each other since we were 15. I was a student of her mother’s in junior high and it’s a small community, so I ended up getting to know her family,” Guarini told TV Guide at the time of their wedding. “It wasn’t until Christmas two years or so ago that we connected and fell head over heels for one another.”

Guarini, who was the runner-up to Kelly Clarkson on American Idol’s first season in 2002, has since found new love with entrepreneur Kim Walsh Phillips.

In January, the singer posted a birthday tribute for Phillips to Instagram, praising her as “one of the most extraordinary humans I’ve ever known.”

“You’ve brought so much joy, purpose, laughter, and love into my world. I’m a better man, father, creator, and human because of you — and I don’t take that for granted for a second,” he captioned his post. “Happy Birthday, honey…thank you for being my partner in business, in life, in vision, and in love. I’m endlessly grateful for you. ❤️”

Phillips commented on the post that she was “blessed” to have Guarini in her life.

“Grateful for and your love every single day @justinguarini,” she wrote.

Guarini released his self-titled debut album in 2003, the same year he starred in the romantic comedy From Justin to Kelly with Clarkson.

Over the years, he’s released a number of other recordings, and has appeared in more than a dozen stage roles, including Wicked and Romeo and Juliet on Broadway.

In recent years, he’s also hosted a number of gigs, and works regularly as a keynote speaker.
