Anderson Cooper got some birthday love from his pal Andy Cohen

The CNN anchor celebrated his big day with a surprise appearance from Cohen on the Wednesday, June 3 episode of Anderson Cooper 360°

"Forget about these L.A. elections. Enough. We've heard it all. My man, it's your birthday, it was mine yesterday," Cohen said

Andy Cohen wasn't about to let Anderson Cooper's birthday pass without a celebration.

The duo's latest on-air interaction took place during Wednesday's broadcast of Anderson Cooper 360°, June 3, when Cohen surprised his pal with a celebratory cake and balloons to mark the occasion."Happy birthday, you Gemini stud," Cohen announced as he walked into the CNN studio and got mic'd up. "How you doing, my man? Happy birthday! Anderson!"

He added, "Forget about these L.A. elections. Enough. We've heard it all. My man, it's your birthday, it was mine yesterday. Happy birthday to you, so happy to see you."

Cooper, who turned 59 on Wednesday, laughed throughout their reunion and blew out his birthday candles. "I love your newsroom, it's gorgeous," Cohen said, before encouraging him to "blow out your cake."

Cooper told his friend that the broadcast was going "alright," as Cohen, 58, joked that he had "hate in your eyes," a nod to President Donald Trump's attacks on Cooper's CNN colleague Kaitlan Collins.

"You know what I think is glorious?" Cohen asked Cooper, who responded with, "What?"

"You," Cohen exclaimed, trying to wipe frosting on Cooper's nose.

"You're a great anchorman. You're a great newscaster," Cohen added, calling Cooper "the best" as the journalist chuckled and ate a cupcake during his signoff.

The Watch What Happens Live host — who celebrated his own birthday a day prior on Tuesday, June 2 — has been co-hosting CNN's New Year's Eve broadcast with Cooper since 2017. On Tuesday, Cohen wished his friend a happy birthday in an Instagram Stories post, as Cooper called him his "Gemini twin" in response. Cohen and Cooper will next host a special called Independence Eve Live on July 3 on CNN.

It's been a big year of change for Cooper, who marked his final 60 Minutes broadcast on May 17. The departure came three months after Cooper revealed he'd be leaving the newsmagazine as a correspondent, citing family reasons.

"My vacation time at CNN has been working on 60 Minutes pieces and I've loved it. But it's been tough. I always imagined like, 'OK, when I don't want to be in the daily-news grind, I'd love to just tell 60 Minutes stories,' but when I had kids, the reality of having kids is different than anything you can kind of imagine," Cooper said during a 60 Minutes Overtime segment.

Cooper joined 60 Minutes during the 2006 to 2007 television season. At CNN, he renewed his contract in December 2025 and continues to anchor Anderson Cooper 360° as well as co-host CNN's annual New Year's Eve special alongside Cohen.
