Anya Taylor-Joy feels a special connection to her Lord of the Rings character
The actress will be joining the media franchise in 2027's The Hunt for Gollum as an elf named Seren

Anya Taylor-Joy feels a special connection to her Lord of the Rings character.
The actress, 30, will be joining the beloved film franchise based on J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy book series in the 2027 release, The Hunt for Gollum, as an elf named Seren.
While speaking with Rotten Tomatoes in an interview shared on Wednesday, July 1, she said, “I feel like I've been an elf my whole life, so it feels very validating to go and actually be able to do it as a job.”

Taylor-Joy continued to share that she's a “huge fan” of The Lord of the Rings and Andy Serkis, who has voiced Gollum since Peter Jackson's original movie trilogy launched in 2001.
“I think he's a wonderful man and a wonderful innovative creator," she said of Serkis. "I think just being able to be a part of this world and to inhabit this character is a dream come true."
Serkis directed the upcoming fantasy epic, in addition to reprising his popular role. Also returning are Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood as Gandalf and Frodo Baggins, as well as Lee Pace as Thranduil. Meanwhile, Jamie Dornan will replace Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn.
Kate Winslet and Leo Woodall join Taylor-Joy as newcomers to the series.
The Hunt for Gollum is set between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies, and is expected to follow Aragorn and Gandalf on a quest to find the titular creature.

Serkis, 62, teased his return to Gollum in an interview with CBS Saturday Morning in May 2026.
“Quite frankly never really left me,” the filmmaker and actor said.
"He's sort of just underneath the skin, poking me, waiting to come out again in all his glory," he added. "It's a big journey ahead from where I'm standing right now, but it's exciting."
Woodall also feels honored to be joining the beloved franchise. "It means everything. It's a boyhood dream for me," he told PEOPLE in May.
Taylor-Joy most recently voiced Princess Peach in The Super Mario Bros. Movieand The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Her latest roles also include playing Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
She is set to star in Dune: Part Three and the Apple TV series Lucky later this year.
The Hunt for Gollum will hit theaters on December 17, 2027.
