Two of everyone's favorite Avengers assembled at the 2026 Oscars for a glamorous night off from fighting supervillains.
Marvel stars Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. took the stage at the annual awards ceremony Sunday night, marking a rare reunion outside of a franchise event. The two seemingly dressed in a nod to their Marvel characters: Downey wore a stylish dark green jacket, evoking his upcoming turn as the villainous Doctor Doom, while Evans wore a navy blue suit, channeling a bit of Captain America chic.
The pair teamed up in time for what Evans called out as the 14th anniversary of The Avengers to present the Academy Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay. While Evans shared that he had gifted Downey a copy of the original Avengers script signed by their entire cast, the Iron Man star was taken by surprise at the request for something in return. After much thought, Downey gave Evans his valet receipt. "I didn't think that one through, I'll need that back," he sheepishly added.

After they went on to present the adapted screenplay Oscar to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another, Downey attempted to make up for his earlier fumble. He presented Evans with the sparkly underwear worn by Channing Tatum in Magic Mike — but that didn't work out either.
A frantic Tatum called out from the audience that he would need the undergarment back, and when pressed by Downey on what he needed it for, the Deadpool actor admitted "for work later."
The reunion came as a sight for sore MCU fan eyes, especially as the premiere of Avengers: Doomsday creeps closer. The upcoming film is a major one for the comic book movie franchise, bringing together superheroes from various eras of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As previously announced, after playing Iron Man/Tony Stark for years in the MCU, Downey returns as the comic book baddie Victor von Doom, who was first glimpsed in a post-credits scene from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Sue and Reed's cosmically powered super-child, Franklin, is presumed to be an inciting part of the Avengers: Doomsday story, which will then continue into 2027's Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2026.
