Robert De Niro crashed Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday night as a bat-wielding FCC chairman to teach the late-night host a lesson in what he could and couldn’t say about President Donald Trump.
The Oscar winner, famous for his role in gangster films like Goodfellas, made the surprise appearance during Jimmy Kimmel’s week of shows from Brooklyn, reprising the mob-boss version of FCC chief Brendan Carr he first played last year following the host’s brief suspension from ABC.
Kimmel opened the bit by revisiting his long-runningclash with the federal regulator: “I don’t know if you know this, but the last time we were here in Brooklyn, we were just getting back on the air after we had that unexpected FCC vacation week,” Kimmel said. “And while I would like to say that things have improved over the last year, they haven’t really. We are still being threatened by the FCC.”
De Niro then strode onstage carrying a baseball bat.
“You’re being threatened by the FCC? Who is threatening you? Am I threatening you? Do you feel threatened by me?” he asked, prodding Kimmel with the bat.
“A little. Yeah,” Kimmel replied, introducing De Niro as the head of the FCC before asking: “What’s your name again?”
“My name is none of your f*cking business,” De Niro shot back. “That’s my name.”
De Niro’s FCC chair announced he was conducting “a routine inspection” before producing a report of Kimmel’s insults aimed at Trump, including “Mar-a-Lardo,” “Benito Gasolini,” and “Captain Cankleroo.”
“We have 192 instances of you poking fun at the president’s appearance,” he read.
When Kimmel tried to interrupt, De Niro appeared to smack him across the face: “Did I tell you it was your turn to talk, Numbnuts? You speak when I tell you to speak, otherwise you shut the f*ck up.”

“You cannot use language like that on television,” Kimmel stuttered. “There are rules, you know.”
“There are rules? I run the FCC. Who’s going to stop me?” the parody FCC chief retorted. “Who?”
He continued: “Let’s see. Did you say that President Trump has touched more women than the music of Adele?”
“Come on now. You have to admit that’s pretty funny, right?” Kimmel pleaded.
“You’re doing it again!” De Niro replied. “Am I going to have to tie your d*ck to a bag of doorknobs and kick you down the stairs?”
The sketch then turned to the FCC’s equal-time rules, with De Niro ordering Kimmel to balance every Trump joke with praise: “Every time you insult the president, you got to follow it with something nice.”
He continued: “For example, if you were to say something like, ‘Trump wasn’t invited to Jeffrey Epstein’s birthday party because they were afraid he’d start eating the cake before the kid jumped out.’ Then you got to also compliment his penmanship in that naked lady birthday poem he didn’t write. Am I clear?”
“Not really. It just seems to me like you’re trying to control what I do and do not say by abusing the power of the federal government,” Kimmel said.
Grinning, De Niro’s FCC chief said: “Finally, you got it. Now you’re starting to understand. Oh, dumbf*ck is finally starting to get it.”
