Big Brother 28is over — and a Survivor alum proved whether or not his skills carried over into reality TV confinement.

On Thursday, Oct. 1, school counselor Taylor Brown, surgical dental assistant Drew Campbell and Survivor star Rick Devens competed for the $750,000 grand prize in finale of Big Brother’s latest season. Ultimately, only one contestant could be crowned the winner by a jury of their peers.

After a season of reality TV returnees, game-changing powers, whirlwind romance and signature backstabbing, Big Brother 28’s final episode followed the season’s three-part Head of Household competition — which determined who would decide which of their two peers they’d take to the two remaining seats to face off against.

For the first part of the HOH comp, Brown, 27, dominated over both Campbell, 22, and Devens, 42. The endurance competition found the three standing on a rolling log in an effort to outlast their fellow competitors. She ended up staying on the longest, which gave her a fast pass on the final part of the competition, where she’d face off against the winner of part two.

In the second part, Devens bested his ally Campbell. The comp featured the two pals traveling back to the 1600s for a slingshot-focused game, where they had to recall which of their fellow houseguests met certain criteria. Ultimately, the Survivor favorite won, landing him a spot in the final part of the HOH showdown against Brown.

Part three found Brown and Devens going head-to-head in a memory competition, in which they watched videos from jury members to decide which of their statements were false. After watching six videos of their fellow houseguests, Devens won the comp 5-3 with one question remaining.

When it came time to decide who Devens was taking with him to the finale, he chose to take Brown, leaving Campbell in tears as he walked out the door. Devens explained that Brown had approached him with a more convincing offer for the end game.

With the final two decided, Campbell joined the seven-person jury, which also included LaTrice “Lala” Verrett, Angela Murray, Barrett Pfeiffer, Yash Patel, Melody Morris and Survivor winner Dee Valladares.

Finally, it was time to vote for a winner. Both houseguests pleaded their cases to their peers. Brown explained how she made it through the summer after six times on the block, while Devens claimed he was disadvantaged as a reality TV returnee this season. Devens also explained his rationale for voting to evict Campbell.

In their final pleas to the jury, Brown emphasized her “faith, courage and perseverance” and specifically asked for Campbell’s vote after Devens’ betrayal. Devens brought up his record of competition wins, claimed his hands were “covered in blood” and said he’d be a “great representative” of the season.

Ultimately, after host Julie Chen Moonves read off the first five votes, Devens had enough to take home the win. He walked out of the house after his 6-1 win, greeted his fellow houseguests and gave his family a hug.

Devens left with a $750,000 grand prize, while Brown still secured a prize of $75,000. As for the annual America’s Favorite Houseguest honors, Devens also left finale night with a little extra cash in his pockets, securing an additional $50,000.

His grand total in winnings came to $810,000 thanks to his overall win ($750,000), his AFH victory ($50,000) and an additional $10,000 he picked up during the season.

To wrap the episode, Chen Moonves announced that the show would be returning for two additional seasons. For those who missed out on any Big Brother this season, episodes can be streamed on Paramount+.
