The Washington Commanders may have lost their season opener to the Philadelphia Eagles, but they made some adjustments during the game that gave us a glimpse of what might be possible in 2026.

One of the brightest spots in the Commanders’ game was rookie wide receiver Antonio Williams. He led all receivers with four receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. He was targeted four times and caught each pass thrown his way. He was our Player of the Game for Week 1, and his on-field production has been a hot topic since the game ended. Now, Williams is earning recognition from the NFL by being named the Pepsi Rookie of the Week.

Besides the production listed above, Williams also led all NFL receivers in separation score in Week 1. Only Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers was close to Williams.

For a kid who was questioned throughout the offseason, he certainly made the most of his NFL debut. Williams was outstanding in his debut, beating Pro Bowl cornerback Cooper DeJean on multiple plays and coming close to scoring a second touchdown. Don't be surprised if the Commanders continue to expand his role moving forward.
