Days of Our Lives is kicking off the New Year with plenty of drama, as the long-running soap unveiled its first preview for the week ahead.

The official Days of Our Lives YouTube channel released the weekly promo, teasing what’s to come in episodes airing January 5th – 9th.

The preview opens up with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) and Javi Hernandez’s (Al Calderon) wedding comes to an emotional close, The moment is quickly followed by the return of Dimitri Von Leuschner (Peter Porte) to Salem, with Gwen Rizczech (Emily O'Brien) watching from the background.

Elsewhere in the promo, Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) rings in the New Year alongside Jeremy Horton (Michael Roark), telling him “I hope it really is a happy new year.”

Romance and tension collide throughout the teaser, including a kiss between Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) and Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey), while Javi is later shown in tears. Peter Blake (Dan Gauthier) is seen grabbing Kristen DiMera’s (Stacy Haiduk) wrist, and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) delivers a shocking line to Brady: “You’re fired.”

Medical drama also takes center stage as Theo Carver (Tyler Joseph Andrews) wakes up in a hospital room surrounded by Abe Carver (James Reynolds) and Paulina Carver (Jackée Harry). In another ominous moment, an unidentified figure dressed in black secretly records Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) and Stephanie Johnson (Abigail Klein) kissing in Horton Square.

Fans quickly flooded the comment section of the promo with reactions.
