Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour brought hell on heels for a milestone *Devil Wears Prada* moment on the Oscars stage.
The Academy Award-winning actress and returning *Devil Wears Prada 2* star teamed up with the former *Vogue* chief — who inspired Meryl Streep's ruthless magazine editor, Miranda Priestly, in both *Prada* films — for a fabulous appearance to promote the upcoming sequel during Hollywood's biggest night, and it all culminated in two playfully shady moments as they presented the awards for Best Costume Design and Best Makeup and Hairstyling.

"You could argue that one's wardrobe in real life is also key. Does it make one appear elegant and attractive on, say, the most important night in Hollywood when, say, the most important people in costuming will be judging how one looks? Anna, just curious, what do you think of my dress tonight?" Hathaway asked, while Wintour put on a pair of sunglasses and quickly replied, "And the nominees are..."
Shortly thereafter, Hathaway segued into the second category by asking if Wintour wanted to read the nominees.
"Thank you, Emily," Wintour asked, referencing the name Streep's character repeatedly used to demean Hathaway's (whose name was actually Andy) in the first* Devil Wears Prada*.

The moment came after years of speculation about Wintour's feelings toward the 2006 smash hit *The Devil Wears Prada*, which director David Frankel adapted from writer Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name, inspired by the author's time working under Wintour at *Vogue*.
Hathaway made headlines in 2022 when she sat next to Wintour at a New York Fashion Week runway show wearing an outfit that heavily referenced the final ensemble her *Devil Wears Prada* character, Andy Sachs, wore at the end of the first film.

In the film, Sachs worked under Priestly at *Runway* magazine, with the rising journalist begrudgingly taking the gig as her last resort in New York City. While there, she crosses paths with Miranda's legion of underlings, including snooty assistant Emily (Emily Blunt) and loyal longtime colleague Nigel (Stanley Tucci).
"The scenes where the driver calls and [Miranda's] coming into the office, and the entire office breaks into an absolute panic. That is the regular day-to-day craziness that I think was important to maintain," Weisberger previously told ** in an interview tied to our 15th-anniversary oral history of the film. "There were a lot of things that skewed very close to reality."
Streep and Frankel — both of whom also returned alongside Hathaway, Tucci, and Blunt for *The Devil Wears Prada 2* — maintained several times over the years that their respective takes on Priestly weren't directly based on Wintour. Still, Frankel told EW in the oral history piece that production designer Jess Gonchor secretly infiltrated the *Vogue* offices to scope Wintour's workspace — and replicated its aesthetic for the movie.**

"They got it really, *really* close," Weisberger confirmed to EW at the time.
Frankel also told EW that Wintour did, in fact, attend the film's 2006 premiere, and that he later ran into the fashion icon a few years after that.
"I was at a tennis tournament in Miami… seated behind her, and when it was over, I made the effort to introduce myself. 'I'm David Frankel, the director of *The Devil Wears Prada*,'" he said. "And [she took her] hand out of [my handshake]!"
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who had a small supporting role in the first *Prada* movie, additionally told EW that the movie got many things right about the cutthroat world of fashion, but that Wintour was kind to her throughout her early days as a budding supermodel.
"She's a more reserved person [but] she was always very nice to me," Bündchen said of Wintour, adding that she didn't remember negative sentiment about the movie in Wintour's chic industry circles: "I think she loved the movie. I mean, I'd be happy if Meryl Streep played me!"
While the primary cast reunited to film *The Devil Wears Prada 2 *last year (as EW first reported), we also exclusively learned that OG star Adrian Grenier — who played the often-debated Nate, Andy's boyfriend, in the first film — would not reprise his role in the sequel.
Other additions to the new cast, however, include Simone Ashley, Lucy Liu, Kenneth Branagh, Justin Theroux, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Pauline Chalamet, B.J. Novak, Conrad Ricamora, and Lady Gaga.**
*The Devil Wears Prada 2* is in theaters May 1.
