The couple had their first date 11 years ago at pal Taylor Swift's Fourth of July party in 2015

The relationship milestone comes amid Swift and Travis Kelce's reported wedding weekend

Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, are celebrating a special anniversary — and pal Taylor Swift has a hand in it!

The "Shape of You" singer, 35, and his wife, 34, had their first date 11 years ago at Swift's famous annual Fourth of July party. Fittingly, the couple's relationship milestone comes amid Swift's reported wedding weekend. The pop star and Travis Kelce, both 36, are expected to celebrate their nuptials at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Friday, July 3.

Sheeran previously opened up to PEOPLE about that life-changing day when he and Seaborn began dating after Swift hosted the pair at her Independence Day bash at her Rhode Island home in the summer of 2015.

“Well, our anniversary is her 4th of July party,” Sheeran said during a 2017 interview.

“I’ve known Cherry since I was 11,” he continued. “She worked on Wall Street in New York, and I had like six shows [around New York in 2015]."

“It was around then, and we reconnected. I went on tour again, and then I went to Taylor’s 4th of July party," Sheeran recalled to PEOPLE. "I was texting [Seaborn], and she was like, ‘I’m in Rhode Island at a 4th of July party,’ and I was like, ‘So am I.’ I kinda said to Taylor, ‘Can I invite one of my old schoolmates?’ The rest is history.”

The following summer, in 2016, Sheeran and Seaborn celebrated their one-year anniversary at Swift's Fourth of July party. At the time, Swift hung up a punny banner in honor of the couple that read, "HAPPY 1ST ED-IVER-CHERRY!"

Sheeran told PEOPLE that Swift's annual soirée was always an interesting experience as she'd gathered "just a load of like-minded people that you would never expect to see in the same place, together."

“[Taylor]’s kind of a magnet for like-minded people, and they’re always super-sweet," he explained. "Anyone that’s around her is very, very nice. It’s a fun party. But it’s a lot of stories. You walk in, and you’re like, ‘Holy f---! I know everyone in here!’ It’s cool.”

Sheeran and Seaborn went on to quietly marry in an intimate ceremony in Suffolk, England, in December 2018 with just 40 guests in attendance. They welcomed their first child, daughter Lyra Antarctica, in August 2020, followed by daughter Jupiter in May 2022.

Sheeran and Swift have been friends and collaborators for more than a decade. In 2012, the "Karma" singer tapped the British musician to serve as the opening act on herRed Tour. The pair have also teamed up on several of Swift's songs, including “The Joker and the Queen,” “Everything Has Changed” and the Red vault track “Run.”

Last year, several months after Swift announced her engagement to Kelce on Instagram in August, Sheeran revealed that he found out his friend's big news the same way the rest of the world did. During a November appearance on Access Hollywood, he shared that he saw Swift “a week after” the proposal and the two ended up having "like a four-hour catch-up" with each other.

Sheeran also shared some insight into their long friendship, telling the outlet, “I'm not self-conscious about my relationship with [Swift]. We've been friends for very, very many years. We're super close, and we see each other when we see each other.”
