Elle Fanning and sister Dakota Fanning have set some ground rules before they make their first movie together.
Speaking with E! Live from the Red Carpet host Zuri Hall at the 2026 Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 11, Elle, 27, talked about filming highly-anticipated movie The Nightingale with her sister, fellow actress, Dakota, 31.
When Hall asked Elle if there was “a plan of attack” for working with a sibling, Elle shared that Dakota vowed not to behave like a big sister.
“She’s promised me that she’s not gonna boss me around,” said the Sentimental Value star, a nominee for Best Performance in a Supporting Role by a Female Actor - Motion Picture. “That’s what she’s promised . . . the older sister. You can’t! You have to treat me like a fellow actor.”

Elle also gave an update on the movie, which was first announced more than six years ago. “In a couple months we are about to go film,” she said. “It’s taken a couple years in the making, but . . . we are finally, really doing it this time.”
Moments after Elle spoke with Hall on the red carpet, Dakota also chatted with the host, who asked about working with Elle. Asked by Hall what’s one thing Elle shouldn’t do, Dakota quipped, “annoy me too much” before bursting into laughter.
The Nightingale — which is set for release in 2027 — is based on Kristin Hannah’s historical fiction novel about two sisters in France at the dawn of World War II.
“The Nightingale will be the first time we act on screen together,” the Fannings said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter in December 2019 when the project was first announced.

"We have played the same character at different ages but have never spoken to each other in front of a camera. For years, we have looked for a film to do with one another and then this gem appeared,” continued the Fannings, who both played Lucy, the daughter of Sean Penn's character in 2001's I Am Sam.
“As sisters, to share our artistry with each other while bringing such a powerful sister story to life is a dream come true. We are so lucky to have our fearless director, Melanie Laurent, to guide us along on the journey. Let’s do this, sister!!”
