Spike Lee was involved in a heated altercation with a fan as he was dining at Yankees Stadium before the New York Yankees hosted the Boston Red Sox in Game 2 of their wild-card series.

The 69-year-old filmmaker, who has given Donald Trump a brutal nickname, was dining in the Legend Suite dining area before Wednesday's clash against the Red Sox, sporting a Yankees jersey and red NYC hat. But an unidentified individual reportedly disrupted his meal, with the person said to have asked Lee about his thoughts on Palestine as he filmed him eating, according to FOX Sports reporter Andy Slater.

The situation enraged the fabled director. "Why did you come over to me?" Lee could be seen shouting while being held back by staffers. A man in a blue blazer then pointed at a table nearby and seemingly ordered the unruly fan to leave, saying, "You’ve gotta go. You’ve gotta go." It comes after a lip reader exposed Caitlin Clark's 8-word comment to a ref after an explosive altercation.

The New York Post reported that Lee lost his cool when the individual asked him to say "f--- Palestine" while requesting a selfie. Prior to the incident, the Oscar-winning filmmaker was in a cordial mood, taking pictures with people and even leaving seats open at his table in case someone wanted to join him, according to the outlet.

Lee returned to Yankees Stadium after attending New York's 9-0 win in Game 1 together with his daughter, Satchel, the night before.

He was sitting behind the Yankees' dugout and later posted a selfie with Satchel on social media, sharing he had "a great time."

The Wednesday incident took place a few months after Lee revealed his pro-Palestine stance during the 2026 NBA All-Star Weekend, taking place in Los Angeles back in February. The Inside Man director showed up at the All-Star Game wearing a top featuring keffiyeh elements and carrying a bag with the Palestinian flag on the strap.

A keffiyeh is a traditional square-shaped cotton scarf or headdress with a black-and-white grid pattern, which is associated with the Palestinian heritage. It's become a global symbol of Palestinian solidarity.

The attire sparked controversy, as the event marked the first time an Israeli-born player — Portland Trail Blazers forward Deni Avdija — played in the All-Star Game. Palestine and Israel are embroiled in a long-standing conflict over land and self-determination, which saw a major escalation when the rulers of the Gaza Strip, Hamas, conducted a deadly attack inside Israel on October 7, 2023.

Israel responded with relentless bombing of Gaza, resulting in the death of over 70,000 Palestinians, according to estimates cited by the United Nations, with many believed to be women and children. Israel's campaign has drawn fierce backlash from the international community.

As critics suggested Lee targeted Avdija with his outfit choice, the director later explained he didn't intend to offend the Blazers player.

"Much respect to Deni Avdija, the first Israeli-born player in the NBA All-Star Game. Congratulations also to all the players and the NBA," Lee wrote on social media. "There has been some conjecture about what I wore to the games on Saturday and Sunday.

"The clothes I wore are symbols of my concern for the Palestinian children and civilians, and my utmost belief in human dignity for all humankind. What I wore was not intended as a gesture of hostility to Jewish people or to support violence against anyone, nor was it intended as a comment on the significance of Deni being an All-Star.

"There were 28 NBA players chosen to be in L.A this weekend. I didn't know them all, and Deni playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, a West Coast team, I didn't know Deni as the first Israeli-born NBA All-Star. He can ball. Now I do know.

"LIVE AND LEARN. ONWARD AND UPWARD. PEACE AND LOVE. YA-DIG? SHO-NUFF."

The Yankees ended up clinching the series with a 9-2 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday night. They will face the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Division Series, which begins in Tampa on Saturday, October 3.

It comes after new WNBA footage showed a fan's behavior that sparked the heated A'ja Wilson altercation in Tuesday's Las Vegas Aces-Indiana Fever game.
