Hugh Jackman made a rare comment about his kids four months after his divorce from ex-wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
While speaking to E! News at the Sunday, October 26, premiere of his movie Song Sung Blue, Jackman, 57, was asked if he thinks his kids will follow in his footsteps and pursue an acting career.
“They’d both be very good, but I don’t know,” he said of his kids, OscarJackman, 25, and AvaJackman, 20. “I just want them to do what they love.”
Jackman and Furness, 69, adopted their son and daughter in 2000 and 2005, respectively.
The former couple, who wed in 1996, announced their split in September 2023.
“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth,” the pair said in a joint statement to People at the time. “Our family has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
Furness filed for divorce two years after their split in May, and it was finalized in June.
In light of their divorce, Jackman has gone public with his romance with his Music Man co-star Sutton Foster following months of romance speculation. In fact, the pair made their red carpet debut as a couple while attending the Song Sung Blue premiere.
Jackman and Foster's romance was confirmed in November, shortly after she filed for divorce from husband Ted Griffin after nearly 10 years of marriage in October 2024. The former couple share daughter Emily, 8, whom they adopted in 2017. Their divorce has not yet been finalized as of time of publication.
While Jackman has made sure to keep his kids' lives out of the spotlight, Furness has opened up about her love of motherhood in recent years.
“It’s so interesting being a parent, and they’ve both made me smarter than I think I ever could have been on my own,” she told People in 2020. “But when you’re a parent, you can’t lie to them or yourself. They will shine a light on every one of your flaws, your Achilles heel, whatever. You’ve got to look at yourself.”

She continued, "What I'm very interested in is epigenetics, and it's even more so when you have adopted children because I'm coming from my lineage of my mother, how she parented me, how her mother parented her, and I'm translating that to my children. But my children also have a separate lineage. So it's almost like we have more players at the table."
"Epigenetics is the study of how cells control gene activity without changing the DNA sequence," according to Medline Plus. "Epigenetic changes are modifications to DNA that regulate whether genes are turned on or off. These modifications are attached to DNA and do not change the sequence of DNA building blocks. Within the complete set of DNA in a cell (genome), all of the modifications that regulate the activity (expression) of the genes is known as the epigenome."
