- Johnny Depp transforms into Ebenezer Scrooge in the new trailer for *Ebenezer*.

- The actor stars in the *Christmas Carol* adaptation alongside Ian McKellen and Rupert Grint.

- The film is set to hit theaters on Nov. 13, 2026.

Johnny Depp is fully in his element in the new trailer for *Ebenezer*.

The actor plays Scrooge in Ti West’s adaption of Charles Dickens’ classic novella, *A Christmas Carol*, set to hit theaters on Nov. 13. The trailer shows Depp completely embracing the unsavory side of the character, as he’s forced through visions of the past, present, and future in a redemptive supernatural journey.

ā€œYou will be haunted by three spirits,ā€ the ghost of Scrooge’s business partner, Jacob Marley (Ian McKellen), tells him in the trailer. A trio of spirits flashes on screen, showing the characters of the Ghost of Christmas Present and the Ghost of Christmas Past, respectively played by Tramell Tillman and Andrea Riseborough.

The trailer features snippets of Ebenezer’s traipse through time as well as his humdrum life with his underpaid and overworked employee, Bob Cratchit (Rupert Grint), nephew Fred (Sam Claflin), and Fred’s wife (Daisy Ridley).

ā€œI love the book, so I’m really not trying to do a spin on the story that is not faithful to the story or is some sort of meta tweak on it,ā€ director West told ** of tackling Scrooge’s story. ā€œIt is genuine. It has its own perspective, and it has its own places where it deviates a little bit. And stylistically, I do certain things with it that are maybe in my wheelhouse, but they’re all very much in reverence of the text.ā€

West told EW that Depp brings a ā€œuniqueā€ quality to Scrooge, as only he could.

ā€œHe has a way of hitting all of the classic Scrooge moments that make him an unlikable guy, but there’s a certain sense of humor and charm to it as well,ā€ West explained.

As for fans drawing comparisons to Depp’s famous roles like Captain Jack Sparrow, Willy Wonka, or Edward Scissorhands following August’s Comic-Con teaser of *Ebenezer*, West asserted that the actor’s Scrooge is ā€œits own thing.ā€

ā€œThe tricky thing with somebody like Johnny and a teaser like that is it naturally does evoke a lot of really other iconic things,ā€ West told EW. ā€œI don’t think a lot of those other iconic performances really relate to this — in the same way that they don’t relate to one another.ā€

Paramount’s *Ebenezer* will be Depp’s first film by a major American studio since his widely publicized legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard, which concluded in 2022. A jury found that Heard had defamed the *Charlie and the Chocolate Factory* star in a 2018 Washington Post op-ed she wrote about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse. She was also awarded compensatory damages, but no punitive damages, for her defamation countersuit. Heard and Depp agreed to settle the case later in 2022, after the *Aquaman* actress appealed the verdict.

Depp is also set to appear in *Day Drinker*, costarring Madelyn Cline and PenƩlope Cruz, next year. The thriller, from writer Zach Dean (*The Tomorrow War*) and director Marc Webb (*The Amazing Spider-Man*), was the first studio project Depp filmed amid a lack of big-screen opportunities following the defamation trial.

*Ebenezer* hits theaters Nov. 13, 2026. Watch the trailer above.
