And the winner for best needle drop of the night goes to... Macaulay Culkin!

The *Home Alone* star, 45, returned to the Golden Globes stage for the first time in 35 years to present the award for Best Screenplay — Motion Picture on Sunday. And, naturally, he did so with the perfect song backing him up: Mark Morrison’s 1996 hit, “Return of the Mack.” **

Culkin appeared moved by the loud applause from the crowd as he took to the stage.

“Wow! Thanks, guys. It’s been 35 years since I’ve been to the Globes,” he remarked. “Thanks for welcoming me back. That’s really nice of you guys.”

The former child actor dove into his speech by first poking fun at his *Home Alone* fame. “I know it’s weird seeing me outside the holiday season, but, shockingly, I do exist all year round, I promise you,” he teased.  **

“Tonight, I’m here to present the award for Best Screenplay — Motion Picture, which actually makes a lot of sense,” Culkin continued. “I’ve been reading screenplays basically since I learned to read.”

Noah Wyle at the 83rd Annual Golden Globes held at The Beverly Hilton on January 11, 2026 in Beverly Hills, California.

He went on to describe a good script as “the basis of it all,’ adding, “None of us would be here tonight without the ideas that the writers craft on the page. Here are the nominees for Best Screenplay — Motion Picture.”**

The stacked writing category saw Paul Thomas Anderson (*One Battle After Another*), Ryan Coogler (*Sinners*), Jafar Panahi (*It Was Just an Accident*), Chloe Zhao and Maggie O’Farrell (*Hamnet*), Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie (*Marty Supreme*), and Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier (*Sentimental Value*) all in contention for the award. Anderson won big in the end, however.

Culkin was just four years old when his acting career began. His big break came just six years later when, at the age of 10, he portrayed the clever Kevin McCallister in John Hughes’ 1990 film, *Home Alone*. **

For his performance as the quick-thinking wunderkind, Culkin was nominated in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category at the 1991 Golden Globes. That same evening, he also presented the award for Best Performance by a Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture with Mickey Rooney.
