Taylor Sheridan is like the "the man behind the curtain," according to Marshals star Arielle Kebbel, who says that she's never met the prolific TV writer

The actress is a huge fan of the Yellowstone creator's work

New episodes of Marshals air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS

Taylor Sheridan is a very busy man. Just ask Marshals star Arielle Kebbel.

The actress, who stars in the Yellowstone spinoff series featuring Luke Grimes' Kayce Dutton, tells PEOPLE she still hasn't crossed paths with Sheridan yet.

"It's funny. I was talking with some of the cast of his other shows, and at least in my experience, Taylor's like the man behind the curtain," Kebbel, 41, says. "No one ever sees him."

Of course, there's no bad blood over it. "The man is busy," Kebbel adds of Sheridan, 55, who will release five projects this year alone. "So I actually have not met him."

There's also an important caveat when it comes to Marshals. "For our show, it's a bit of a different story because our show is truly a hybrid of the Yellowstone universe, with Taylor's blessing and Taylor executive producing and 101 Studios behind us. Also, Spencer Hudnut is our show creator."

Hudnut, she says, "has worked really hard to bring [this world to life] — like we have real Navy SEALs on set with us, training us."

"So, just in terms of the character development and story arcs, it's really a merger of the world that Taylor [created with Yellowstone] with this new chapter that Spencer's created," Kebbel says.

"That's also why I say we're so lucky that we had so many of the original [Yellowstone] cast come with us," she continues, referring to returning stars like Brecken Merrill, Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty. "Because it really does help keep things familiar in that world while also bringing in these new characters.

Before joining the Yellowstone universe, Kebbel says she was a fan. "Growing up, I loved watching Westerns with my family, specifically my father and my grandfather," she says. "When Yellowstone came around, there was nothing like it. It was an American Western. I feel like we were all craving [that] and no one had really figured out how to do it like the classics until Taylor Sheridan came along."

She "fell in love with the Yellowstone universe," she says. "And then of course, his other work [too]. I love Lioness, I love The Madison."

New episodes of Marshals premiere Sundays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
