Martha Stewart is weathering fierce online criticism after posting what appeared to be a Halloween costume depicting homelessness, which she subsequently removed from social media.
The 85-year-old multimillionaire lifestyle icon allegedly posted and later deleted an image showing herself in oversized, ragged clothing with apparent dirt smeared across her face, clutching a clipboard bearing the words: "I AM HUNGRY HELP ME!!" The divisive Halloween outfit photograph seemed to be included in an Instagram carousel showcasing the candles Stewart markets through QVC. The caption accompanying the now-removed post stated: "My QVC candles are perfect for Halloween!!!"
Though no longer visible on her official accounts, internet users captured screenshots that are now spreading across platforms and generating widespread condemnation.

With numerous Americans grappling with rising living costs and affordability concerns, the controversial costume sparked widespread dismay and anger across social media platforms.
Stewart, whose business empire has generated an estimated net worth of $400 million, showcased an alternative Halloween outfit during her Friday, Oct. 30 appearance on the Today show. She donned an Olympics-themed ensemble consisting of a white sweater adorned with the American flag and Olympic rings.

In a statement provided to Page Six on Sunday, Stewart responded to the backlash over her removed Halloween post.
"I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention," she said in the statement.
"Homelessness continues to remain one of America's greatest challenges and ongoing crises, something that I care deeply about and I have spent a significant amount of time and effort supporting charities that combat this ongoing social epidemic," the businesswoman added.
She emphasized that she remains "committed to continuing to make a difference."
