Nick Reiner was under a mental health conservatorship in 2020, reports say
New details have come to light about Nick Reiner's mental state years ago, before he faced murder charges in the deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
According to a report published by the New York Times on Thursday, Jan. 15, the 32-year-old screenwriter was in a mental health conservatorship in 2020. The conservatorship began in 2020 and ended in 2021, according to the outlet, which cited confirmation from a clerk for the Los Angeles Superior Court.
USA TODAY has reached out to Nick's attorney, public defender Kimberly Greene, for comment.
The NYT also reports that Steven Baer, a licensed fiduciary − an individual who is entrusted with property or power for the benefit of another − who was appointed as the conservator for the Hollywood filmmaker's son, said mental illness "is an epidemic that is widely misunderstood."

In December, the Los Angeles Times reported that the middle child of Rob and Michele had, at some point before their deaths, been prescribed medication for schizophrenia. According to NBC News, at the time of Rob and Michele's homicide, their son was being treated for a serious psychiatric disorder after being diagnosed with the mental disorder years prior.
