Prince Harry is expected back in the UK next week as he takes on another newspaper group in court. The Prince is retuning for the high-stakes legal battle, but wife Meghan is not anticipated to join him on this visit. He is also not expected to see his family members or carry out any other public engagements during his time in his home country.

The Prince is one of seven high-profile claimants, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, suing Associated Newspapers over accusations of unlawful information gathering in the 1990s and early 2000s. The newspaper vigorously denies all the allegations and the trial is expected to last for around nine weeks.

While Harry is the claimant whose presence in court may attract the most attention internationally, a key figure of focus for UK coverage of the case will be the claims made against the Mail publishers by national hero Baroness Doreen Lawrence. She claims she was targeted by the publisher while they supported her with their coverage following the murder of her son Stephen Lawrence in a racist attack in 1993.

Harry is due to give evidence Thursday but could also attend to watch on other days of the trial, as he has done for previous cases. This is the last in a series of claims he has brought against several UK newspapers. In 2023, he won a case against Mirror Group Newspapers and in 2024 he settled with News Group Newspapers, the publishers of the Sun.

Harry is not expected to see his father King Charles on this trip, with the King currently in Scotland and due to cary out public engagements in Edinburgh on Monday. Prince William and Kate are also traveling to Scotland for public appearances in Stirling and Falkirk on Tuesday. On Thursday, the day that Harry is expected to give evidence, William is scheduled to be on a day out in Bristol.

However, Harry could be set for more return trips to the UK if his automatic right to police protection is reinstated. His security is being reviewed with a decision expected soon. Currently, his security in the UK is decided on a case-by-case basis, a status that was determined when he stepped back as a working royal in 2020.

The Prince has repeatedly cited concerns for his family’s safety as a reason for not bringing his children to the UK more. The last time Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, visited their father’s home country was in 2022 during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Then Prince Charle was said to have been “delighted to see his grandson” and had an “emotional” first meeting with his granddaughter Lilibet.
