Quavo revealed he welcomed his first child in a recent interview

The rapper said fatherhood has brought him “a new hunger” and “a new fire”

His upcoming album Qrömelife reflects on the death of his nephew and Migos collaborator Takeoff

Quavo is stepping into a new role: dad.

The Migos rapper revealed that he recently welcomed his first child, a baby girl, while discussing fatherhood in a short interview clip with Complex, shared on his social media.

“It’s a blessing that God gave me,” he said. “It’s a whole new state. It brings joy to me. It brings a new reason why I’m doing this. It brings like a new hunger, a new fire to me. I’m just proud to be a father now, cause we used to always talk about that. So I’m just happy about it.”

The 35-year-old also revealed his baby girl in a short film released on Sept. 28, as he prepares to release his upcoming solo album, Qrömelife, on Friday.

The 15-track project has a deeply personal connection to Quavo’s family. The album references the death of his nephew and Migos collaborator Takeoff, according to Complex.

Takeoff was 28 when he was shot and killed outside a downtown Houston bowling alley on Nov. 1, 2022. He was attending a private party with Quavo when an altercation broke out. Quavo was not injured in the shooting.

In the months following Takeoff’s death, Quavo opened up about his grief and the lasting impact of losing his nephew.

“I miss him a lot and I love him,” Quavo said in a 2023 conversation with Jamie Crawford-Walker that he shared on his YouTube channel. “He know I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”

At the time, Quavo was preparing to release Rocket Power, an album inspired in part by his grief over Takeoff’s death. He explained that the project represented the emotions he had been carrying since losing his nephew.

“Just being fueled by my brother, Take, and just bottling in all these emotions, all the pain, all the hard times, all the times I cried and all the times I just made music just to pull up and try to play songs and he not there,” he said. “I’m just trying to get this fuel from above and this fuel from the sky and call it ‘rocket power.’”

Now, Quavo is entering another major chapter of his life with the arrival of his daughter.

Qrömelife features several high-profile collaborators, including Pharrell Williams, who executive-produced the project, as well as Justin Timberlake, A$AP Rocky and Tyler, the Creator.
