Jensen said he doesn't have an excuse for the mistake and told reporters he "felt like I let my teammates down, coaches down, and know it won't happen again"

Royals manager Matt Quatraro told reporters he knows Jensen "feels terrible" and said the team will "move on" from the mishap

Carter Jensen made a rookie mistake.The Kansas City Royals rookie, 22, was taken out of the lineup of in their game against the Minnesota Twins on Thursday, April 2 because he overslept and missed his time to prepare for the day game.“Carter had an oversight," Royals manager Matt Quatraro told MLB.com, and said the rookie "overslept.""Wasn’t here on time, and we made the decision to scratch him from the lineup," Quatraro explained, noting that Jensen is "a stand-up guy, a really hard worker, a great kid."Quatraro added that Jensen "feels terrible" about the mishap."He's accountable to it. It's not something that has been a pattern or any of that kind of stuff. Nobody feels worse than he does, and I think he'll admit to that, and we'll move on," the manager said.

Jensen owned up to the mistake while speaking with reporters at his locker, as seen in a video shared by NBC reporter McKenzie Nelson.“No running from it. Just didn’t wake up to my alarm. Slept through it," explained Jensen, who said he went into "full panic" when he realized his mistake. "Don’t really have an excuse, nor should I. It sucks. Happens. I felt like I let my teammates down, coaches down. Just learn from it and know it won’t happen again.”The rookie added that he has "a lot to learn from" the incident."Making sure if I don’t set one alarm, maybe set three, four, as many as possible,” he said. “Moving forward, that’s what I’m going to do. Set a million alarms. Make sure I’m up. It stinks, though.”

Royals' first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino said he and the team were "glad Carter's okay" and said there was some "initial" concern for the rookie as the team was "trying to get ahold of his parents and everything like that.""But once you find out he's okay, it's like, 'Alright, it's a growing moment,' " said Pasquantino, according to MLB.com. "He's really young. There are some things that cannot happen, and that's one of them. He's going to have to wear it on the chin, same way anybody would have to. It can't happen and hopefully it doesn't happen again."

The first baseman suggested Jensen should "maybe get another alarm clock or something," per MLB.com.In a resurfaced video from the Royals' TikTok account, Jensen is seen admitting he needs multiple alarms to get up in the morning. "This is embarrassing...but I need at least, like, six to eight alarms...it's not good," Jensen said.
