Ruby Rose found herself at the center of a murder investigation at 15.

The *Orange Is the New Black* alum explained during Tuesday’s episode of the *Off the Vine *podcast that she attended the after-party of a gallery opening with her mom as a teenager. When she went outside to “smoke a cigarette” with friends, Rose “saw something” in the backyard.

“I thought it was a doll hanging,” Rose recalled. “As we got close enough, we could tell this was a real human, like a 4-and-a-half-year-old. There was blood coming out of his ears, nose, and mouth. It was very traumatic.”

While Rose’s friend, whom she’d known her “whole life,” went to get an adult, the actress ran to the child.

“I ran to the child, picked him up, and I thought I’d saved his life because there was a big deep breath,” Rose continued. “Unfortunately, he was brain-dead for so long.”

Because “no one knew” what had happened, the police questioned Rose. Afterwards, Rose said she was called a “baby killer” at school. “I was just breaking down left, right, and center” as she was “bullied” for this death.

Eventually, the late child’s older brother came out of “dissociative amnesia” and revealed the truth, the actress said.

“He’d pushed his brother down the slide. The brother had been caught trying to get him off the nail that he was caught on his sweater. Puts him to the side and then freaks out when he starts to see blood and ran and just had no memory for, like, two weeks,” Rose said. “Finally, had the memory, went back to the police and, thank goodness, told them.”

During the season premiere last week, Rose detailed a separate trauma in her life, reflecting on the injuries she sustained while shooting *Batwoman* in 2019.

“I love playing an action superstar,” she said on the show. “Kicking butt was one of the joys in my life — but it also ended up being the end.”

Rose nearly severed her spinal cord and herniated two discs, undergoing emergency neck surgery. “I broke my neck, like, twice already. I’ve got two replacement discs,” she added. “There was no bouncing back.”
