Savannah Guthrie has returned to *Today* after temporarily stepping away from Studio 1A.

The television personality and journalist, 54, was welcomed back to the NBC morning show by her cohost Craig Melvin at the top of Tuesday’s episode.

“So glad that Savannah’s back in Studio 1A,” Melvin, 47, remarked. “Had some much-deserved time off.”

Guthrie also celebrated her return to the show, informing viewers and her cohosts that she’d spent her four days away tuning in to “all those World Cup matches.”

“I watched quite a few of them,” she told a surprised Melvin. “And you should know, the France and Spain semifinal is today.”

FBI confirms some Nancy Guthrie ransom notes determined to be fake, others are still being investigated

Nancy Guthrie

Additional information about Guthrie’s absence from the show and the reason behind it, outside of just taking time off, was not disclosed. Last week, PEOPLE reported that Guthrie’s absence was not related to the disappearance of her mom, Nancy Guthrie.

Nancy, 84, went missing from her Tucson, Ariz., home on Feb. 1. An investigation into the case and her whereabouts is still ongoing.

In the immediate aftermath of her mother’s disappearance, Guthrie took a two-month hiatus from *Today*. She returned to the program in April, telling her cohosts that it was “good to be home.”

Prior to her return, Guthrie filmed a pre-taped interview with former *Today* cohost Hoda Kotb, during which she explained that her family was “in agony” over her mother’s disappearance.

“It’s unbearable,” she said. “And to think of what she went through. I wake up every night in the middle of the night, every night, and in the darkness, I imagine her terror. And it is unthinkable, but those thoughts demand to be thought. And I will not hide my face. She needs to come home now.”

Guthrie has continued to speak out about her mother’s disappearance and advocate for her safe return in the months since. That includes a June broadcast, during which she tearfully addressed a reported ransom note that claimed Nancy had died.

“I love you guys and I love this place. This is unusual and unprecedented, to say the least, to be sitting here, but I don’t have any comment on the story and I’m not involved in our coverage,” Guthrie said. “But, I can’t pretend I’m not here.”

She continued, “Since I am, I wanted to take the opportunity to ask people, to really beg people to come forward. Somebody knows something. This is a news story today that’s on your radar, but this is the life that my sister lives, that I live, that my brother lives, that our extended families lives, that our children live every day.”

Guthrie also affirmed that her family “cannot be at peace” without knowing where their matriarch is. “No matter how much I try to come out here every day and smile and find that joy, and I will — I promise I will — this is a moment to tell you that we need your help,” she said. “We’re begging for help, and I’m not going to miss that opportunity.”

The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have asked for any tips to be sent to the 1-800-CALL-FBI line. The FBI has also set a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to Nancy’s recovery or the apprehension of those involved.
