After an unexpected delay, Six Flags Over Texas has announced another opening date for its newest record-breaking roller coaster.
Tormenta Rampaging Run — the world's tallest, fastest, longest and first-ever giga (300-400 feet tall) dive coaster — will open on Thursday, July 9, the park has announced. The public debut will take place nearly two weeks after the ride was initially scheduled to launch.
In mid-June, park officials announced the ride would open to the public on June 26. However, only four days before the scheduled date, a park spokesperson told PEOPLE “the commissioning process is taking longer than expected.”

During commissioning, the final phase of testing before an attraction can open, crews ensure all mechanical, electrical and control systems meet safety codes and manufacturer specifications.
In an update shared on Instagram, the park said, “While this means pausing our current opening timeline, it ensures that when Tormenta charges out of the gates, it will be a ride experience worthy of its name — bold, intense, and unforgettable ... Thank you for your continued patience.”

The ride takes inspiration from the Spanish tradition of running with the bulls. When the attraction opens, it will take guests 309 feet above the ground, offering a breathtaking view of Arlington, Texas, and the surrounding Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Just like waiting for the release of the bull, the ride vehicle will pause for three seconds before a terrifying 285-foot drop.
Tormenta Rampaging Run will break six world records including tallest dive coaster, fastest dive coaster at 87 mph, longest dive coaster with 4,199 feet of track, the tallest vertical loop at 179 feet, the highest beyond-vertical drop at 285 feet and the highest Immelmann inversion — a jet-like maneuver— at 218 feet.
In late May, the first footage of the attraction in action as it began its testing phase was shared with PEOPLE.
“Tormenta Ramapaging Run is set to forever change not only the Arlington skyline, but the full lineup of thrills only offered at Six Flags Over Texas,” park president Pete Carmichael said in a press release shared with PEOPLE.
The new attraction will be set inside Rancho de la Tormenta, an immersive, themed area styled to look like an old and secluded Spanish village. Vibrant banners will fill the land alongside lively Spanish music.
The July 9 opening will coincide with Six Flags Over Texas' 65th anniversary. The yearlong milestone celebration features new entertainment and food and beverage options, ride enhancements, park improvement initiatives and more.
