- The first official photo of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft has arrived.
- Turner will star as the video game hero in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's live-action *Tomb Raider *TV series.**
- Sigourney Weaver and *Harry Potter* alum Jason Isaacs are also set to star in the video game adaptation.
The new *Tomb Raider* TV show just unearthed a hidden treasure more elusive than the Dagger of Xian.
As *Game of Thrones* alum Sophie Turner prepares to holster up as video game icon Lara Croft in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's upcoming live-action series adaptation, Amazon MGM Studios unveiled Wednesday a first-look photo of the actress in character as the legendary video game hero.
In the stunning image (below), 29-year-old Turner channels Croft's signature look from the early days of the video game series, marking the official start of production on the long-awaited Prime Video series.**
Turner sports the look first introduced in the original 1996 *Tomb Raider* game (and slightly improved in 1997's *Tomb Raider II*), complete with Croft's red-hued sunglasses, short shorts, a leather backpack, a teal tank top, and a braided ponytail.

Though the show is currently filming, plot details are still tightly under wraps. Light clues as to where *Fleabag* writer-star Waller-Bridge will take the famed archaeologist and adventurer across the TV series, however, emerged when the production unveiled its full cast and character descriptions earlier this month.
Upon the announcement, three-time Oscar-nominated *Alien* actress Sigourney Weaver officially boarded the show in the role of Evelyn Wallis, a new creation for the wider franchise described in a press release as a "mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara's talents."
*Harry Potter* and *White Lotus* actor Jason Isaacs will play a familiar role to fans of the video game series that first launched 30 years ago in 1996. Isaacs is set to portray Atlas DeMornay, Croft's uncle, on the show, while *All American: Homecoming *supporting actor Martin Bobb-Semple will play Croft's tech support pal, Zip.

Fans of the game series will also recognize *House of the Dragon* recurring actor Bill Paterson in the role of Winston, Croft's butler who often roamed around (and sometimes farted in) her mansion in the earlier games.
*Bridget Jones* film series actress Celia Imrie also boarded the show in early January as another new character named Francine, "the head of advancement at the British Museum" who's "focused solely on raising funds and glasses of champagne" throughout the story.
Turner inherits the role of Croft from a lineage of Oscar-winning live-action actresses, including Angelina Jolie (who starred in two *Tomb Raider *films between 2001 and 2003) and the 2018 big-screen reboot star Alicia Vikander.

It was initially reported that Vikander would reprise the role in a sequel to the 2018 film (set to be written by *Lovecraft Country*'s Misha Green), but in a 2022 interview with **, the *Danish Girl *star cast doubt on its future.
"With the MGM and Amazon buyout, I have no clue. Now it's kind of politics," Vikander said at the time, referencing Amazon's multi-billion-dollar acquisition of MGM in March of that year. "I think Misha and I have been ready, so it's kind of in somebody else's hands, to be honest."
