Prime Video has released a first look at its upcoming Tomb Raider reboot series, starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft.
In the image, released on Thursday, Turner is dressed in Croft’s signature outfit: a green tank top, black shorts, shades and dual pistols. The Game of Thrones actress is the latest high-profile name to bring the iconic video game character to life. Angelina Jolie famously portrayed Croft in two films released in 2001 and 2003, while Alicia Vikander portrayed the globe-trotting archaeologist in a 2018 reboot film.
The Tomb Raider television series, which is currently in production at Prime Video, was originally greenlighted in 2024. Turner’s attachment to the project was first reported later that same year. Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein are also set to appear in the series.
Primetime Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning writer and actress, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, will serve as the series’ creator, writer and executive producer.
Lara Croft emerged as a female action icon following the release of the first Tomb Raider video game in 1996. The original Tomb Raider saga has since spawned several more games across three distinctive timelines. Two more video games are also on the way: Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider: Catalyst, which are set to be released in 2026 and 2027, respectively.

Turner, who also shared the first-look photo on Instagram, previously spoke about her excitement in bringing Croft to the small screen for Prime Video.
“I am thrilled beyond measure, to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner said in a previous statement. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many — and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
During a recent appearance on The Julia Cunningham Show, Turner dished on the rigorous training she’s undergone to prepare for filming.
“We’ve been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it’s been a lot,” Turner said, before revealing what she’s learned about her body in the process. “I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That’s what I’ve learned.”
