Recent reports have described King Charles' speculated visit to the United States as certain, sparking curiosity about what the trip could look like.

2026 is America's semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary of its independence, and rumors that the King and other members of his family would visit amid the anniversary have long been brewing.

On Jan. 9, The Telegraph said that King Charles, 77, was expected to pay a state visit to the U.S. in April.

The claim echoed The Times' Dec. 26 report that advanced talks for this were in the works, with a source saying it was "highly likely" that the sovereign would visit in April.

King Charles is expected to travel across the pond to the former British colony before Prince William reportedly visits the U.S. to watch the World Cup.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be played across 16 cities in the U.S., Mexico and Canada between June 11 and July 19, and The Times reported that soccer super fan William, 43, will attend as patron of the Football Association, English soccer's governing body.

There are several matches around the U.S. in the run-up to Independence Day on July 4, meaning that the Prince of Wales and heir to the throne could stay abroad to commemorate the holiday.

King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton recently spent time with U.S. President Donald Trump and his wife, first lady Melania Trump, during the couple's unprecedented second state visit to the U.K. in September 2025.

The British royals rolled out all the stops for the Trumps, including a ceremonial welcome with honor guard and carriage procession to a glam state banquet at Windsor Castle that night, plus other outings.

It would be a shrewd move for the British royals to make the most of any potential visits to the U.S., as the American government paused a $40 billion pledge to invest in British tech in December 2025 amid trade disagreement, The New York Times reported. The "Tech Prosperity Deal" was announced and signed by Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on the final day of the president's state visit to the U.K.

If King Charles were to visit in April, The Telegraph alleged that there could be a logistical issue with entertaining at the White House. The People's House in Washington, D.C. is currently undergoing major construction after Trump demolished the east side of the White House complex to make way for a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, which is expected to be completed before 2029.

For now, the outlet said that major occasions like state dinners are currently being hosted in large on the South Lawn, with outdoor restrooms installed so guests don't have to travel to and from the White House.

During a meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission on Jan. 8, White House staff secretary Will Scharf implied that the accommodations would remain the same when King Charles visits in the spring.

"I think it’s notable that when the president of the United States of America flies to the United Kingdom, he’s hosted at Windsor Castle. And when, next year, the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland comes to the United States, more likely than not, he will be hosted in a tent on the South Lawn with porta-potties," said Scharf. "That, to me, is not a good look for the United States of America."
