Simone Rocha Swerves Into Blokecore LAUNCHMETRICS SPOTLIGHT
When Simone Rocha began showing at London Fashion Week, the tough “model off duty” in a studded motorcycle jacket ruled the fashion roost. The designer made being unabashedly girly cool again, and waves of bow-loving coquettecore aficionados followed in her wake.

Today at London Fashion Week, the designer had a more tomboyish take on her signature feminine wares. Models sported oversized satin bombers or track jackets fit for a Gallagher brother, complete with knee-high soccer player-style socks. (She collaborated with Adidas Originals this season.)

Could Rocha be veering towards blokecore? It definitely seemed like it. One of her touchstones this season was photographer Perry Odgen’s 1990s series Pony Kids, depicting the subculture of working-class Irish youth equestrians who dressed in staples of the era’s sport-inflected casualwear. (Ogden also walked in Rocha’s fall/winter 2023 show.)

Still, her coquettish touches were ever-present, reassuring the Rocha girl that her aesthetic of choice certainly wasn’t going anywhere. The magic was all in the juxtaposition. As she put it: “Lace boiler suits, frills on your tracksuit.” Corsages and ribbons trailed from masculine coats, equestrian-style prize ribbons were pinned to tailored trousers, those sporty socks were bedazzled with trefoil logos, the tracksuits erupted with ruffles and scalloped edges, and hints (sometimes more than hints) of vintage-style lingerie abounded. Oh, and those track jackets came with the ultimate Simone signature: a pearl zipper pull.

Rocha wrote in her show notes that she was inspired by clothes that were “loved and lived [in],” with rich tapestry prints and tweeds adding a sense of history to the collection. There were also classic Rocha moments in the form of bow-bedecked gowns in “peat green” and a heavily decorated red dress—perfect for taking a victory lap.
