“Today” producer interrupts on-air segment after accidentally walking into shot

A Today producer was caught on camera during a live segment.
The cohosts got distracted when the producer crouched down to exit the set.
Craig Melvin quipped, “Is that someone on the floor?”
When in doubt, drop to the floor.
That’s just what senior producer Cecilia Fang did on Today Wednesday morning after she was caught on camera during a live segment with 3rd Hour hosts Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer, and Craig Melvin. According to PEOPLE, the trio was chatting with medical contributor Dr. Natalie Azar about a new weight loss drug when a woman was seen walking in the background of the shot.
“I just totally lost my train of thought,” Azar admitted after noticing the hosts were preoccupied.
“Well, Cecilia just walked behind you,” Dreyer shared amid the producer’s on-air snafu.
Remaining professional, Azar kept the conversation moving but was interrupted yet again when Melvin exclaimed, “Is that someone on the floor?”
Azar asked what was going on as Roker explained that the show’s producer walked into the shot. The camera cut to Fang crouching down and rushing off the set, with Roker cheekily adding, “She’s also in the witness protection program. So she didn’t realize she was on camera.”

Melvin confessed that he didn’t think he’d ever seen a situation like that happen, joking, “This place.”

Azar laughed off the moment but the hosts apologized for the situation. “Thank you for enduring the mayhem,” Melvin told the medical expert, who admitted she thought she suffered a wardrobe malfunction or something.
“No, she just forgot we do live TV every morning at the same time,” Melvin teased of Fang.
“But please stand by because there might be a patient who died of embarrassment,” Roker quipped.

This isn’t the first time a Today show crew member has interrupted a live segment by accident. Just last month, a cameraman tripped during a taping of Today With Jenna & Sheinelle. Walking backwards as he was filming Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones’ intro segment, the camera operator ran into a chair.
“This is the hazard of the job,” Bush Hager insisted to viewers. “Now, the good news is, if you go back, I think our shot was pretty steady.”
